Biofuel Development in China
On November 24, 2011 a workshop on “Biofuel Development” took place in Beijing, China.
The “China Biofuel Development Workshop” was initiated by the German Rosa Luxemburg Foundation in cooperation with China Beijing Environment Exchange (CBEEX). It was held against the backdrop of energy shortage, nuclear power safety concerns, and crude oil price hike, which had drawn more attention to the research and practice of biofuel. Meanwhile, the Chinese government has made developing new energy a top priority. Therefore, the workshop was of great significance and relevancy.
The workshop attracted many distinguished scholars, officials and industry leaders from government organs and research institutes at home and abroad, including China National Development and Reform Commission, China International Center of Economic and Technical Exchange, United Nations Development Program at Beijing, China Energy Research Society, RLS and German Thuener-Institute, etc.
Speakers introduced China’s policies on energy development; presented Germany’s energy situation and good practice of biofuel development pattern; explored current situations of energy, especially of biofuel in China; explored the prospects of biofuel in China and potential problems; discussed domestic and foreign biofuel technologies; introduced the project of Development Prospects, Trends, Actions and Industrialization. The participants enjoyed heated and in-depth discussion. The workshop was an excellent opportunity to learn Germany’s experience on biofuel development, and to discuss how to promote biofuel development in China.
