Climate Crisis in the City
Today, more than half of the world’s population lives in cities, and the number will only rise in the years to come. Growth rates are particularly pronounced in the Global South, where 75 percent of the world’s urban population already lives. Cities also provide a particularly striking example of social inequality, expressed both in the accumulation of wealth and consumer behaviour, as well as in who is most affected by the consequences of climate change. As our planet gets hotter, the climate crisis is throwing up greater challenges for cities around the world.
