Description
The war in Sudan is more than a humanitarian catastrophe: it is an expression of a deep political crisis marked by militarization, authoritarian power struggles, and global interests. International and diaspora debates often remain limited—civil, democratic, and feminist perspectives are marginalized or ignored.
Sudan Narratives creates a space where precisely these voices become visible. Amid fragmentation and overwhelming challenges, new forms of solidarity, self-organization, and political action are emerging within the diaspora—this weekend’s event builds on that.
The Rosa Luxemburg Foundation and the Sudan Club are bringing together actors from politics, civil society and the Sudanese diaspora to pool perspectives, explore avenues for action, and strengthen solidarity-based practices.
Cultural contributions—music, film, and cuisine—offer additional insights into the diverse realities of Sudan. The weekend is intended as the kickoff for long-term collaboration and networking.

Left Perspectives on the War in Sudan: Political Economy, International Actors, and Scope for Action
Panel discussion, concert, and Sudanese food
The opening panel will focus on the structural roots of the war: What role do the exploitation of natural resources and global markets play—for example, in the case of gold, agricultural commodities such as gum arabic, or other strategic resources? How do regional and international interests influence the conflict? And where is there concrete political scope for de-escalation and support for civilian forces?
At the same time, the discussion will explore how media images and dominant narratives shape perceptions of Sudan—and how these can be countered with nuanced, Sudanese perspectives.
Afterwards, we invite you to join us for a gathering featuring Sudanese food and live music (Hassan elMalik and Sun Blues).
