This year has witnessed a series of showdowns between the Democratic Party establishment and an insurgent US Left. In this discussion, we’ll look at some key fights between progressive underdogs like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ben Jealous, Abdul El-Sayed, Kerri Evelyn-Harris, Cynthia Nixon, and members of the Democratic Socialists of America running for state legislature, and consider how their fight for hegemony mirrors and differs from the struggles being waged by the Left across Europe.
Claire Sandberg & Winnie Wong were embedded in US Senator Bernie Sanders's presidential campaign in various official and non-official capacities, among them the collective People For Bernie. Winnie Wong is a radical media maker, internet activist and founding organizer of Occupy Wall Street, and created the viral political hashtag #FeelTheBern. Before she joined the Sanders campaign as a digital organizing director, Claire Sandberg ran a digital campaign against fracking in New York that garnered the attention of politicians and celebrities. Recently, both have been connecting with and supporting European progressive movements and parties in their campaigning efforts.
