A Tribute to Jane McAlevey’s Life and Work

Dear O4P community,

We write to you with broken hearts to announce the passing of our founder, lead trainer, and heart and soul, Jane McAlevey, on Sunday 7 July 2024, at the age of 59, following a long struggle with multiple myeloma.

Here are some words prepared by her O4P co-founder and fellow coordinator, Ethan Earle, to mark the passage of this “big-hearted humanist and beacon to the international workers’ movement.”

Our hearts may be broken, but they are also full with the challenge that Jane has left to us: to help carry forward her legacy by using her life’s work to breathe vitality into movements for worker justice and progressive change in this beautiful yet troubled world that we share.

To honor this moment, the Organizing for Power team will hold an online tribute to Jane’s work and legacy on Saturday 27 July at 12pm US Eastern / 6pm Central European. Find the starting hour in your time zone by clicking here.

Please register now to reserve your space at this limited-capacity gathering.

We also invite you to share your memories of Jane, including what she and/or O4P have meant to your life and work. We would be happy to receive any photos you wish to share, of your organizing work based on what Jane has taught you, your successful structure tests, workplace charting, photos with Jane... anything that makes sense to you.

We hope to share a selection of these stories and images during the tribute, and plan to save all of your submissions for posterity and future homages.

With love and solidarity,
The O4P team
