Was ist passiert in diesen 100 Jahren?

***ENGLISH***

Yugoslavia: Rise and Fall

This year would have marked Yugoslavia’s 100th anniversary had it not broken apart.
We would like to use this anniversary as an occasion to discuss important milestones of Yugoslavian history together with Yugoslavian experts and at the same time present the RLS web documentation “100 Years of Yugoslavia”.
Founded in 1918 as a kingdom building on the idea of uniting the South Slavic peoples of the Habsburg monarchy and the Ottoman Empire, both the idea of Yugoslavism and the state of Yugoslavia underwent a highly eventful history.
From constitutional monarchy to royal dictatorship; from occupation by Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy in World War II to liberation in the People's Liberation War under the leadership of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia. From loyal ally of the Soviet Union to the conflict with Stalin; from the attempt to build a self-governing socialist society to the bloody civil wars of the 1990s.
What happened in these 100 years? What remains, and what can we learn?

Our panel will discuss important milestones of Yugoslav history together with:

  • Milica Popović, sociologist from Belgrade/Ljubljana/Zagreb
  • Krunoslav Stojaković, head of the South East Europe office of the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung
  • Gal Kirn, cultural scientist at the Technical University of Dresden
  • and Roland Zschächner, journalist for the newspaper Junge Welt.
  • Moderation: Wenke Christoph, Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung

At the same time, we will be launching the web documentation «100 Years of Yugoslavia.»

After that: get-together at Balkanbeats
