The new NFP alliance was intended to mobilize not only against the RN, but for a positive alternative with a clearly left-wing platform. The electoral alliance of the same name, comprising La France Insoumise, the Socialist Party, Les Écologistes (Greens), and the French Communist Party, along with smaller partners, received the most votes in the second round. A victory that offered hope.
But what began so hopefully was blocked by President Macron. The election winner was not allowed to form a government. In the wrangling over various government formations, the Socialist Party was forced out of the alliance. However, Balibar had previously criticized the project for early on becoming a "cartel of parties" in a power game, instead of driving social mobilization. What is the situation in France now? What can we learn from the successes and mistakes? Also for the situation in Germany? Can a "social popular front from below" offer a perspective against the growing fascistization and create new hope here too?
