Im Zuge der Entwicklung des Kapitalismus spielt in den Volkswirtschaften
des globalen Nordens die Finanzökonomie eine zunehmend größere Rolle. Sie erhöht die Ungleichheit, führt zu finanzieller Instabilität und schädigt unsere Umwelt. Zehn Jahre nach der Finanzkrise stagniert die Produktivität im globalen Norden, die Ungleichheit steigt, und wir stehen vor einem existenziellen Klima-Notstand. Die Bewältigung dieser Probleme erfordert mehr als nur kleine politische Änderungen die Volkswirtschaften im globalen Norden müssen ihre Wirtschaftsweise radikal überdenken und vom finanzgetriebenen Wachstumsmodel zu einem grünen, demokratischen Sozialismus übergehen.

Grace Blakeley ist Wirtschaftswissenschaftlerin am Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) und Wirtschaftskommentatorin des New Statesman. Sie tritt regelmäßig in den britischen Medien auf, u.a. in Question Time, Politics Live und BBC This Week. Ihr Buch Stolen: How to save the world from financialisation (Gestohlen: Wie die Welt vor der Finanzialisierung zu retten ist), das Aufstieg und Fall des finanzwirtschaftlichen Wachstums analysiert und ein neues Wirtschaftsmodell entwirft, erscheint im September 2019.

Financialisation and the climate emergency

As capitalism has developed, finance has come to play a much greater role in the economies of the global North, increasing inequality, causing financial instability and damaging our environment. Ten years after the financial crisis, productivity across the global North remains subdued, inequality is rising and we are facing an existential climate emergency. Dealing with these issues requires more than small policy changes - economies in the global North must completely rethink their economic models, moving from finance-led growth, to green, democratic socialism.'

Grace Blakeley is an economist at the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) and the New Statesman’s economic commentator. She is a prominent voice in the UK media, and features frequently on both radio and TV, including Question Time, Politics Live, and BBC This Week. Her book Stolen: How to save the world from financialisation, which analyses the rise and fall of finance-led growth and how we might move towards a new economic model, will be released in September 2019.
