support program

The scholarship foundation offers its scholarship holders a broad range of support programs (see below for the current program).

It begins with the mandatory introductory seminar, where new scholarship holders become acquainted with the foundation and each other.

At doctoral seminars, doctoral candidates have the opportunity to discuss the status of their work.

Seminars on academic writing techniques and research methodology complement the event program.

Educational trips, for example, to Poland, Brazil, or Senegal, address current political and historical issues.

In their own self-established working groups, scholarship holders explore academic and sociopolitical topics.

Networking among scholarship holders is promoted through regional meetings, mailing lists, and the self-service portal.

Participation and active involvement of the scholarship holders in political education at the state and federal levels is also possible and encouraged.

The scholarship holders have access to a variety of publication opportunities for their research findings, such as the manuscript series published by Karl Dietz Verlag, the journal "luxemburg," and "Standpunkte-Papiere" (Standpoint Papers), among others. Publication on the RLS website is also possible.

The maximum funding period and scholarship amount for domestic students are based on the BAföG (Federal Student Assistance Act) and the funding criteria of the Studienwerk (Studienwerk). The scholarship is income-dependent. The maximum funding amount is based on the BAföG rate, plus various supplements if applicable.

In addition, a monthly tuition fee of €300 can be paid, regardless of income.

Scholarship holders' stays abroad (e.g., study trips, conference attendance, semesters abroad, and mandatory internships abroad) can also be funded.

The scholarship is awarded until the completion of the maximum funding period (standard period of study).

Double funding (e.g., simultaneous receipt of BAföG, unemployment benefits, or other public scholarships) is generally excluded.

Lux like Studium is a scholarship program that motivates high school students and prospective students without an academic background on their path to university and provides support and advice throughout their studies. With Lux like Studium, we provide funding starting from the first semester and accompany you throughout your studies. Applications for this scholarship program are open exclusively to prospective students, i.e., prospective students who are not yet enrolled at the application deadline. Funding begins at the beginning of the first semester.

Why Lux like Studium?

Educational institutions impart skills and award qualifications that are essential prerequisites for social and societal participation. Since the publication of the first results of the PISA study, it has become clear that social background and educational success are closely linked in Germany. Not everyone has equal opportunities to participate in social resources and processes.

Inequality of opportunity is particularly evident in transitions between educational institutions – not least because people without an academic background are significantly underrepresented at universities. This also applies to students supported by one of Germany's 13 scholarship programs for gifted students: the largest group of scholarship recipients has an academic background.

Recruiting and supporting students without an academic background therefore represents a social challenge. With its "Lux like Studium" program, funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation is placing further emphasis on creating concrete equal opportunities for people without an academic background.

What can you expect?

The financial support allows you to concentrate on your studies. The scholarship consists of two parts:

  • an income-dependent part, based on the BAföG rate
  • a flat-rate tuition fee (currently €300 per month) that is independent of income.

The accompanying program offers seminars, workshops, and personal advice. Here you can train skills that are important in everyday university life and that will strengthen you in your studies.
