Asia is a region characterized by diversity and tensions, a continent exposed to rapid processes of change and modernization that have lifted millions of people out of poverty in recent decades and provided them with the opportunity to build their lives. At the same time, many of its inhabitants are (still) affected by social and ecological issues, domestic and transnational conflicts and wars, as well as large-scale refugee and migration movements.
In turn, people throughout Asia are actively searching for ways to respond to these existential challenges. In conversation with them, the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung strives to learn how they perceive the situation, how they intend to solve existing social problems, and, wherever possible, lend its support to joint projects aimed at bringing these ideas to fruition.
Taking into account the diversity and complexities of political, social, and economic challenges and the possibilities of taking action in the various countries and regions across the continent, the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung focuses its work in Asia on:
- Pushing for greater social justice
- Lending its support to approaches aiming towards socio-economic transformation
- Fostering the democratization of political praxis and strengthening civic action
- Analysing the worlds of work and strengthening the organization of workers
- Food sovereignty
- Emancipatory education
- Flight and migration
- Approaches towards positive peace
- Climate justice
In pursuit of these aims, the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung works together with local partner organizations and committed individual civil society actors, research and teaching institutions, workers’ organizations and policy think tanks.
