News | History - Karl Marx Marx as a Migrant - a Digital Narrative

Following a life in exile

On Karl Marx's 200th birthday anniversary, Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung has set up a unique digital monument for the philosopher from Trier.

Paris, Brussels and London were important stations in Karl Marx’s escape from censorship and arrest. Those cities have shaped his political activities, his disputes with political companions as well as his intellectual development and thus his work.

On May 5, 2018, Marx would have turned 200 years old. Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung takes his life as a migrant in focus - with a multimedia narrative of his escape.

At the click of a mouse, one gets immersed in the 19th century, meets historians who talk about the labor movements and the living conditions of that time, accompanies city leaders in the footsteps of Marx, learns with whom Marx had arguments and can hear what people have to say about the philosopher and economist today.
