How do we want to live and how can we collectively create the conditions to do so? Feminist Socialization asks how we can democratically shape the foundations of our lives: ownership and labour, care and infrastructure, security and ecological conditions of life. This question has taken on renewed urgency across the world: cuts to social provision, rearmament, authoritarian politics, and ecological crises are deepening existing inequalities and shifting ever more responsibility into the private sphere. From a shared socialist perspective, the contributions foreground different feminist, anti-racist, queer, and ecological concerns, bringing them into dialogue with experiences from Europe, Latin America, and Asia — and seeking common starting points for a future that begins today.
Feminist socialization is not a fixed blueprint. Rather, the contributions in this publication are intended to offer a range of starting points for collectively transforming social relations: through struggles over property and labour; against racism and violence; for the ecological foundations of life; and through concrete local policies. Our objective should not be to pursue these struggles in isolation, but to ask what connects them, and where shared possibilities for action can emerge. The future does not begin only after a great rupture. It begins wherever people collectively take control of the conditions of their lives.
