In a world shaken by one war after another, where emerging alliances challenge old hierarchies, the demand for a global order rooted in justice rather than power is growing louder. We are currently witness to a profound transformation in global power relations. Western hegemony is in decline, as alliances like BRICS and ASEAN increasingly seek to shape global affairs on their own terms. This global shift is reshaping the conditions for social justice, solidarity, and emancipatory struggles. Can multipolarity lead to a fairer world order, or does it merely reinforce existing power structures in a new form?
The pieces on the global chessboard are being rearranged — but not everyone is invited to play. Social movements, marginalized regions, and progressive forces are struggling to even remain visible. Our speakers from the Tricontinental Institute to medico international and the University of Manitoba will discuss how left-wing movements can reposition themselves within a landscape shaped by bloc formation, climate injustice, and digital control. At stake are global ownership structures, economic sovereignty, and the question of who sets the rules in a multipolar world and for whose benefit.
Speakers:
- Vijay Prashad, historian, author, and director of the Tricontinental Institute for Social Research, brings an internationalist perspective rooted in global South solidarity.
- Radhika Desai, professor of political economy at the University of Manitoba, analyzes global power shifts through a Marxist lens and is one of the leading voices in current debates on multipolarity and systemic rivalry.
- Mario Neumann, head of department at medico international, draws from practical experience in global health and solidarity work to reflect on how progressive alternatives emerge through concrete struggles over resources, rights, and recognition.
