Christian Rakovsky

1873–1941

– Bulgarian Social Democrat and a leading Soviet Russian politician and diplomat after 1917; among other positions, served as the president of the People’s Commissar of Ukraine, the Russian ambassador in Paris; removed from positions of power and the party in 1927 and sent into exile, sentenced to 20 years hard labour at the third Moscow Show Trial in 1938 and shot on Stalin’s orders following the Nazi Germany’s invasion of the Soviet Union.
