Gustav Noske

– Social Democratic politician; editor of various Social Democratic newspapers from 1890 onward; Member of the Reichstag 1906–1918; member of the Council of People’s Deputies from 29 December 1919 onward, responsible for army and navy; allows the revolutionary movement in various parts of Germany to be crushed after the January Uprising, Minister of Defence from February 1919 to the Kapp Putsch (March 1920); 1920–1933 Governor of the Prussian province of Hanover.
