Jakob Walcher

1887–1970

– Social Democratic and Communist politician; co-founder of the Spartacus Group in 1915; presides over the KPD founding congress together with Wilhelm Pieck in 1918; one of its leaders; joins the KPDO in 1929, the SAP in 1931, emigrates in 1933. Joins the SED in 1946, is declared the “worst enemy of the working class” in 1951; serves as Bertolt Brecht’s political adviser until his death.
