Paul Löbe

1875–1967

– Social Democratic politician from Lower Silesia; editor of the “Volkswacht” in Wroclaw from 1899 onward; Löbe was the first to invite Rosa Luxemburg to a meeting to Wroclaw in 1901; chief editor of the “Volkswacht” and SPD chairman in Wroclaw from 1903 to 1919, President of the Reichstag from 1920 to 1924; several detention periods in concentration camps from 1933 onward. One of the German parliamentary buildings in Berlin is named after him as longest-sitting deputy in the German Bundestag.
