Reclaim the Game

Webinar on 25 April 2022, 3:30pm CEST
Livestream available

Nearly half-a-year before the games kick off, many critical questions are swirling around the football World Cup in Qatar: how can we keep up the pressure to improve migrant workers’ living and working conditions? What should the necessary structural changes inside FIFA, the IOC, and other organizing bodies in the interests of democratization and human rights-based decision-making look like in practice? Which demands and standards need to be integral parts of a concept for the next major sporting event-hosting country?

To discuss these and other questions, you’re invited to an online debate with a global audience facilitated by sports journalist Ronny Blaschke, featuring:

  • Piara Powar, Executive Director of the Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) Network, London
  • Binda Pandey, Member of Parliament for Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist Leninists)
  • Julia Bustamante, former member of the Olympics and World Cup People's Committee, Rio de Janeiro
  • Miriam Saage-Maaß, Legal Director and Program Director Business and Human Rights, ECCHR – European Centre for Constitutional and Human Rights, Berlin
  • Sebastian Sons, Researcher at CARPO – Center for Applied Research in Partnership with the Orient, Berlin
