Organizing Systemic Change in Times of the Pandemic

The Covid-19 pandemic has the world in grips and an unprecedented economic and social crisis with global impact seem unavoidable. From austerity politics and global inequalities to extractivist capitalism and environmental destruction, from racist border regimes to extended states of emergency and militarization, the pandemic makes everything that is still wrong with global capitalism, more visible. The transnational dimension of these issues makes global dialogue, reflection, and organization between social movements, activists and the Left once again imperative.

On 30 April the new initiative called Global Dialogue for Systemic Change was presented with the aim to co-facilitate and support this process, creating stronger links among activist groups, civic society organizations and social movements, and bringing in a wider range of activists and organizations from Africa, Asia, South, and North America and Europe together in order to dialogue on strategies that will help confront the new challenges collectively.

On Friday, 8 May (18:00 CET), Haris Golemis (transform! europe) and Katerina Anastasiou (transform! europe) discuss with:

Christophe Aguiton (Attac, France), Pablo Solón (Alternativas sistémicas, Bolivia), Moema Miranda (Global Dialogue, Brazil), Raffaela Bolini (Global Dialogue, Italy) and Walter Baier (transform! europe, Austria) about the prospects of in-depth and transnational dialogue on systemic change and the future challenges for global movements and their processes.

Almost 20 years from the 1st World Social Forum in Porto Allegre, what are the lessons learned and how do we adapt to the new conditionalities of today? How do we facilitate global convergence, not only to confront the upcoming challenges, but also in order to imagine collectively a different future?

The online seminar will be held in English.

In an effort to support Global Dialogue for Systemic Change despite the disastrous progression of the Covid-19 pandemic and with the ambition to facilitate a continuity of dialogue between social movements and the Left, transform! europe will be hosting a series of webinars in the upcoming weeks.

Note: you might be prompted by zoom, to download an executable file. This would be the zoom app client. Alternatively, it should be possible to open zoom through your browser.
