In recent years the question on how to deal with the climate change became a central policy field. New Movements as Fridays for Future emerged to challenge climate politics globally. The form of the socio-ecological transformation is contested and will be a central reference point for social conflicts in the coming years. Not surprisingly, far-right actors are also positioning themselves in these struggles. The positions range from eco-fascist nature mysticism to climate change denial to unconditional support for the fossil fuel industry. The discussion will look at these phenomena, classify the different neo-right positions and explore possibilities for emancipatory action in these struggles.

  • Andreas Malm is Associate Professor at the Department of Human Geography/Lund University. Recently he published with the Clara Zetkin Collective the Book “White Skin Black Fuel. On the Dangers of fossil fascism”.
  • Sabrina Fernandes is a fellow of the International Research Group on Authoritarianism and Counter-Strategies at the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation and a visiting researcher at Freie Universität Berlin working on the relationship between authoritarianism and the destruction of nature.
