From #BlackLivesMatter to Black Liberation

A conversation on racial justice and democratic socialism with Dr. Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor

How did #BlackLivesMatter get off the ground? What does the unexpected rise of democratic socialists like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez mean for the future of US politics? And what can be done to fulfill the promise of racial equality in the United States? Renowned author and Princeton University professor of African-American Studies Dr. Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor will join Loren Balhorn and Katharina Pühl of the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung to discuss these questions and more.

Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor is one of the most important voices of the new US Left. She is the author of the book “From #BlackLivesMatter to Black Liberation” (Haymarket Books, 2016) and editor of “How We Get Free: Black Feminism and the Combahee River Collective” (Haymarket Books, 2017). In 2016 The Root magazine named her one of the most influential African-Americans today. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, The Paris Review, The Guardian, and Jacobin Magazine. Her newest book, “Race for Profit: Black Housing and the Urban Crisis of the 1970s”, will be published this fall by University of North Carolina Press.
