For a World without War

The Russian attack on Ukraine demonstrated once again how vulnerable peace in Europe really is — and that the Left needs new concepts for how stable peace could be achieved and what a path to a cooperative security policy in the face of aggressive neighbours might look like. A year later, the Hamas attack in Israel and the latter’s devastating response strained the limits of international law and once again demonstrated the need for effective diplomacy and peaceful means of conflict resolution.

As we prepare to mark the International Day of Peace on 21 September, we take a closer look at the possible economic and diplomatic means as an alternative to arms deliveries and foreign deployments in solving the brutal conflicts of our age. It remains our firm belief that despite — indeed, precisely because of — the current wars in Ukraine and Gaza, the goal of a world without weapons is worth fighting for.
