Labour and Trade Unions

Trade unions are the most important organizations for all workers. Without strong unions, struggles for social justice, democracy in the economy and society, and a socio-ecological transformation of production, transport, and consumption will never be able to succeed. These battles are waged within capitalism, but at the same time point to a future beyond it.

Studying past and present programmes and strategic discussions within the trade unions plays an important role in the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation’s work. Important issues include the debates and concrete projects of the trade union revitalisation debate, economic democracy, as well as the transformation of the world of work and conversion of economic structures. Our work on labour and trade unions is housed in the foundation’s Institute for Critical Social Analysis and is realized in collaboration with other departments and the foundation network. Our trade union discussion group aims to involve activists from trade unions and companies as well as trade union-related academics in the work of the foundation.
