International Trade Union Forum for Social and Ecological Transition

On 17 and 18 October, the third edition of the International Trade Union Forum for Social and Ecological Transition will take place in São Paulo. Previous editions were held in Paris, France, in 2021, and in Seoul, South Korea, in 2022.

This event, organized by CUT Brazil, the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, and the trade unions KCTU from South Korea and CGT from France, along with Trade Unions For Energy Democracy (TUED), will feature the presence of union leaders and social movement representatives from all continents. They will come together to discuss ideas, present strategies, and engage in discussions regarding the transformation of the energy system, sectoral transitions, andstrategies to empower workers in shaping power relationships.

Geared toward workers and their organizations, the event also serves as a platform for the exchange of experiences and information, as well as the development of strategies in collaboration with global social movements. The organizers state, "It will be an opportunity to share the experiences, proposals, and struggles of unions and their allies."

The Forum will focus on the following main dialogue themes:

  • Transformation of the energy system, sectoral transitions, and strategies to empower workers in shaping power relationships
  • The crisis of capital and democracy, the rise of authoritarianism, the far-right, and the climate crisis
  • Food security, the climate crisis, and the right to land as a human right
  • International climate governance and climate justice
Participants:

The forum will host experts and union representatives from various countries. Presence has already been confirmed from organizations in Belgium, Spain, France, Argentina, Senegal, Congo, Zambia, and several other countries. Global unions have also confirmed their attendance. Organizations such as IndustriALL Global Union, representing more than 50 million workers in over 140 countries, the ICM (Building and Wood Workers International), a federation present in 117 countries with over 350 affiliated unions, as well as representatives from the Trade Union Confederation of the Americas (CSA), the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), and Public Services International (PSI).
