The Last Seed is a documentary feature film showing how the past and the future of African agriculture are threatened, with a focus on struggles over the control of seeds. African experts and small-scale food producers demonstrate how they save seeds from the destructive practices of corporations along with their efforts to transform our food systems. Farmers from Senegal, South Africa, and Tanzania talk about the sustainability and adaptability of their farming practices and share wisdom worth discovering.
Film premiere followed by a discussion and reception with the following guests:

The documentary was produced by the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung in cooperation with the Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA), Biowatch South Africa and PELUM Tanzania. Written and directed by Andréa Gema, the film features interviews with Dr. Angelika Hilbeck of ETH Zurich, Mariam Mayet of the African Centre for Biodiversity (ACB), Dr. Mwatima Juma of Tanzania Organic Agriculture Movement (TOAM), and Prof. Mvuselelo Ngcoya, University of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, and others.
The event will be held in German and English with simultaneous interpretation.
