“Without us, then there is hunger. Without us, nothing can be done.”

Women are vital. They are the holders of traditional knowledge passed down from generation to generation, regarding nutrition, medicine, on how to save and cultivate local seed varieties. This knowledge must be supported, shared, and passed on if we want a future food system that is truly sustainable and nourishing to all of us.

“Slowly but surely, we are now going back into the slavery of the seeds. It is up to us as farmers, as peasant farmers, to rise up with the same voice—to help our government so that they acknowledge the importance of these indigenous seeds.” –Lavety Munyimbiri Mulanj

The solutions to our food system’s problems already exist. They have for thousands of years. Farmers’ traditional agricultural practices, like agroecology, support the environment, are healthier for all involved, and produce comparable yields to industrial agriculture (and even higher yields in extreme climatic conditions).

Let’s support farmers, and fight for their sovereignty over their seed, land, and food systems.
