DossierSolidarity against the Coronavirus
The coronavirus crisis not only threatens millions of people around the world, but also lays bare the political and economic state of affairs in- and outside Europe. Healthcare systems left ailing after years of austerity, international institutions barely capable of responding to the crisis, and right-wing governments that exploit the current moment to further restrict civil rights all make the situation worse. But there are also signs of solidarity—in Germany, Europe, and around the world. Capitalism’s standstill, compared to its normal state, potentially opens a space for ideas and praxes of a post-growth society. In this thematic dossier, we report from numerous regions in Europe and the world about people’s everyday lives in the coronavirus crisis, posting left-wing responses and positions for debate.
