The purpose of this paper is to discuss the challenges that Finland’s joining the European Union year 1995 lifted up for the Left Alliance (LA) in Finland. The situation is enigmatic to the party because the leadership looks at the EU primarily as a possibility whereas majority of the supporters of the party see EU primarily as a threat to the values which they hold as important.
