– Russian Social Democratic and Communist politician of Crimean Karaite background; exiled to Siberia in 1912, participated in the peace negotiations at Brest-Litovsk; Soviet ambassador to Berlin; in declining health in 1927, committed suicide after Trotsky’s expulsion from the Communist Party.
