Ernst Reuter (pseudonym: Friesland)

– Social Democratic politician; general secretary of the “Bund Neues Vaterland” together with Lili Janasch from 1914-1916; converted to Bolshevism while in Russian captivity; illegally entered Germany together with Karl Radek on 19 December 1918; member of the KPD from 1918-1922, 1921 secretary general of the KPD; joined the SPD in 1922; sent to a concentration camp in 1933; emigrated to Turkey in 1935; mayor of Berlin from 1947, and subsequently governing mayor of Berlin from 1953.
