Nikolai Bukharin

1888–1938

– economic theorist and philosopher, member of the Bolshevik party leadership, “the favourite of the whole party” (Lenin), advocate of the New Economic Policy (NEP), worked with Stalin to oust Trotsky and Grigory Zinoviev from the Party in 1927; fell from power in 1929; sentenced to execution and then murdered following the third Moscow Show Trial in 1938.
