Otto Braß

1875-1950

– Social Democratic and Communist politician; USPD in 1917; played a leading role in the occupation of the Vorwärts offices during the January riots of 1919, subsequently arrested after the building was stormed on 11 January 1919; VKPD in 1920, KAG in 1921; USPD and SPD in 1922; member of the Reichstag from 1920-1924; co-owner, together with Bernhard Düwell and Paul Levi, of the bookshop E. Laubsche Buchhandlung; joined the resistance after 1933; interned at the Zuchthaus (gaol) Brandenburg from 1938-1945; SED/KPD from 1945.
