Paul Levi

– lawyer and partner of Rosa Luxemburg in 1914; worked with Karl Radek and Lenin in Switzerland in 1916/17; leader of the KPD from 1919-1921; expelled from the party in April 1921 due to his public criticism of the VKPD’s coup tactics; launched his own publication titled “Unser Weg”; he and other former VKPD members formed the Communist Working Organisation (KAG) in the fall of 1921; it proved unviable, however, so, in April of 1922, the majority of its members joined the USPD wing that had refused to merge with the KPD in 1920; from 1922-1930, Levi was the leader of the SPD’s left wing; he subsequently died in an accident.
