Tilla Durieux

1880–1971

– actress and wife of Paul Cassierer; she and the art historian Eduard Fuchs supported Rosa Luxemburg financially from 1916 to 1918, paying for her apartment, daily meals, medication, etc; the pianist Leo Kestenberg, who was the managing director of Cassirer’s publishing house and also Luxemburg’s editor, acted as their intermediary in this arrangement, and Mathilde Jacob received 200 Marks every month; Tilla Durieux emigrated in 1933; she spent WWII in the Croatian resistance.
